When we arrived at 09:00 the parking lot was still closed. The owner of the coffee stand told us that causes traffic jams. The checkpoint was almost empty; occasionally a few people came.
Among those we met were two women who’d come from Qalqilya, one with a sick baby a few months old. As usual, there were rasping, unintelligible announcements over the loudspeaker, and the area was filthy. People crossing were especially welcoming to us. It was encouraging.
