Morning

6:15 Olive Terminal

The parking lot is full of minibuses. Few persons were leaving the checkpoint, which indicates problems of crossing.

Another stream of persons side-steps the checkpoint and crosses through a breach in the fence, due to the absence of a couple of concrete blocks to complete the wall.  Many crossed in this way until two guards and a policeman appeared and started chasing them.  We didn't see any detentions, they just had to retrace their steps.

When we reached the checkpoint itself we found 3 positions open, lines were short and crossing was relatively quick.

Wadi Nar

Lively traffic of vehicles, frequently delayed.  Although we saw quite a number of soldiers, the delays were always in one direction.  Danger, it seems, is one-directional.

Most of the delays were brief.  An empty Palestinian taxi was parked in a bizarre way in the middle of the checkpoint.  Nobody went up to it.  Perhaps the driver and/or passengers were delayed in one of the booths, or perhaps the taxi broke down and the driver went to fetch help.  There was no one to ask, and we left with a heavy heart.
