Afternoon

3:45 pm – There was a traffic jam in the southern square at the entrance to the CP.  The traffic jam continued all during our shift.  (By the way, Palestine has already returned to its winter clock so we actually arrived at 4:45 pm.)

Inside the CP two passageways were operating with small lines in each.  In the shed adjacent to the DCO offices, at least two people were waiting.  After a while we discovered that one of the computers in the passageways had broken down.  As a result, lines lengthened to about 10-15 people and waiting time grew longer as well.  Instead of announcing that there was a technical problem that was being dealt with, the soldiers on duty began to direct people to alternative passageways, causing them to lose their place in line and get angry.  We asked a soldier at headquarters to see if things could be speeded up a bit, but that didn’t seem to have any effect and things continued as before until we left at 5 pm.
