10:30-15:00

Southern Hebron Hills, Highway 60

We drove from the Meitar crossing to Umm Faqra through a magnificent landscape.  Only the red signs warning not to enter Palestinian territory and the knowledge that we’re driving in occupied territory somewhat spoil our enjoyment.  Ruti says that the first one to erect holiday cottages here will become a millionaire.

It’s very cold outside.  We’re in a cave with 12 members of the family, drinking tea and trying to have a conversation with the generous help of M., our driver, who’s translating.  The owner of the cave is building a house; he needs two windows costing NIS 720.  We’ll try to help.

We continued toward Hebron.

Hebron

Our guests were shocked by the tour we made of the city, including the Cave of the Patriarchs, Shuhadah Street, a view over the city surrounded by checkpoints and the crossings.  We stopped at the Tarpa”t and Pharmacy checkpoints.
