Afternoon

Etzion Liaison and Coordination Administration 14:30: two elderly sisters approached us and explained that their 90-year-old mother was hospitalized in Gaza, so they asked for a permit to visit her. They were sent to the Palestinian Liaison and Coordination Administration, and they were sent back to the Israeli Liaison and Coordination Administration. After going back and forth several times they finally received an exit permit yesterday on their way to Gaza but when they arrived at the Bethlehem checkpoint yesterday they were not allowed to cross. They returned to the Liaison and Coordination Administration today and asked us to help. After a great deal of effort and help from numerous people, including M. and Captain R. from the Liaison and Coordination Administration we were promised that the permit would arrive shortly. The women and other members of the family who had come with them waited outside. At 17:00, a young man from the family went in to receive the permit. He emerged quickly, waving the papers in the  air and shouting triumphantly.
