Only one soldier was handling both those asking for an entry- permit and also  those wanting magnetic cards.  His pace was slow and everyone had to wait.

A young chap told us that he had been diagnosed with cancer. He had a permit to visit the Augusta-Victoria hospital, and yesterday he was tested. Today he received a fax from the hospital asking him to come again on Monday for three days of  hospitalization. He applied for another entry permit, but was refused on the grounds that he was on the “GSS – denied list”. It isn’t clear why yesterday he was “kosher” from the GSS’ point-of-view, and allowed to go to the hospital, but today wasn’t allowed a permit to go there again on Monday. We phoned the humanitarian center and also to Hanna in the hope that she might be able to help.

An elderly woman (56 years old), a pious Moslem, complained that she had asked many times for an entry permit in order to pray at the Temple Mount on Friday but hadn’t succeeded. She had applied again today but was told that she was on the GSS-denied list; we didn’t succeed to help her.

A renovation-contractor, married and with children, told us that his permit to work in Israel had been confiscated after a woman whom he had worked for didn’t pay him, and her reaction after he sued her was to counter-sue him for sexual harassment. He couldn’t work in Israel for two years, until his case was heard and he came out innocent. 

Now he has come to the DCL in order to renew his permit, but apparently he is still recorded on the computer as GSS-denied. He wanted to speak to Maher, the policeman who is authorized  to cancel the denial but he was not in his office.  We telephoned him but it appeared that he was already on his way home. He had left for the week-end even though today was a Thursday, so the man will have to wait and come to the DCL again next week.
