Morning

In this report I will be taking advantage of some of the phraseology of Yoaz Handel (short-termed former communications advisor to the Prime Minister, report in Yediot Ahronot) following his tour in Qalandiya.

6:05: Back to normal in Qalandiya. Good morning. We were looking forward to some quiet and peace and indeed, the queues were quiet and not long, the humanitarian passageway opened up according to need. All is apparently so simple and efficient, with the Palestinians pleasantly greeting us with "good morning".

Handel :"There are enough sane Israelis who believe in the purity of arms, in the human image, and realize the need to improve the conditions of the Palestinians in the barriers – without mingling these issues with settlement issues."

In the inner courtyard there was a group: a policeman and two policewomen, two officers, soldiers and a civilian guard, all following the passage procedures. At an early stage they left and we remained with the Matak representative and the civilian guard.

7:30: It was evident that the process was slowing down. Towards 8:00 few people remained and we left.

Handel: "Right wing organizations should be established to attend to the rights of the Palestinians. This is not contradictory…

We cannot oppose human-rights organizations when there remains no alternative. It is difficult to explain worldwide why the human-rights issues turned into a tool advancing political views.

Enjoy "this is not contradictory…"
