Morning

Translation: Marganit W.

Judge: Captain Itay Regev ( a very pleasant man, patient and forthcoming,
especially with the investigators. He grants their every request in full.
They could not ask for a better collaborator. He never has any doubt about
the Investigators' allegations).
Investigator: Sgt.-Major Aataf Awida
Attorneys: Abed, Mahajna, Abu Wassel and Sama'an (who arrived at 10:40 and
defended a detainee prohibited from meeting his attorney.)

The session started at 10:00. The three "prohibited" detaineesinfo-icon were
brought in first. When the second detainee was ushered in, the first one
was still in court. He was led to an adjacent waiting room where detainees
usually sit, one at a time, but since the room was locked, he was taken back to the
holding cell, and was brought in only after the first detainee had left
the courtroom.
There were two armed Military Police in the back.

Today's docket includes 13 suspects, 5 are "prohibited".

1.Prohibited -  Nidham Sa'ib Mehmed Shurab - ID No. 850769746  from Awarta. Arrested on 22.6.08. Remand request: 15 days.

The judge reports that the detainee understands the request, and has no comment.

He is not feeling well. A doctor examined him and ordered further examination.

(The detainee indeed looked sick and tired when brought in and taken out.)
Attorney: Abed.
Decision: Remand extension for 15 days.

2. Prohibited - Muataz Blalla Adib Isma'il - ID No. 910451863.
Arrested on 5.6.08. Remand request: 8 days.
Again, the judge reports that the detainee suffers from stomach ache, probably due

to a stomach flu.
The defense, Attorney Sam'an was surprised. He was not aware of it.
The detainee has been prohibited from meeting his attorney for 4 days (23-26.6.08).
Decision: The detainee will be seen by a doctor. Remand extension: 8 days.
(The hearing was conducted while Detainee No. 6 was present in the room awaiting his hearing).

3. Prohibited - Muhamed Adel Hadi Muhamed Dubasha - ID No. 850405986.

From Duma. Arrested on 23.6.08.

Remand request: 15 days.
The detainee has been prohibited from meeting with an attorney for 6 days, 24-29.6.08.
Attorney: Mahajna.
Decision: Remand extension 15 days.

4. Amar Muhamed Asa'adim - ID No. 936672278.
Attorney Abed: The detainee is a student. The investigators took away his student papers. He requests to have them back by Monday 30.6.08.
At 10:30 Attorney Abed leaves hurriedly, and I was unable to obtain the documents. Unfortunately, I was also unable to hear the decision because the judge spoke softly over the Arabic translation, and the air conditioner was loud.

5. Wauni Ahmad Dubasha - ID No. 850288044 from Duma. Arrested on 4.6.08.
Remand request: 8 days.
Attorney: Abu Wassel.
Decision: Remand extension for 8 days.

Attorney: Abu Wassel.
Decision: Remand extension for 16 days.

8. Hitam Muniv Sa'ih - ID No. 907748545 from Nablus. Arrested on 5.6.08.
Remand request: 16 days.
Attorney Mahajna: The detainee is only 18 years old. When arrested he was
legally a minor.
Decision: Move the detainee to another detention facility, since processing the case

does not require his presence.
Remand extension for 16 days.

9. Mahmud Faruk Bublaz - ID. No. 945336339 from Nablus. Arrested on 12.6.08. Remand request: 16 days.
Attorney Abu Wassel: The detainee was suffering from eye problem when he
was arrested at his home.  He was taken blindfolded by jeep through
Hawara. One of the soldiers (Border Police?) hit him on the head 30 times.
He cannot identify the attacker because he was blindfolded, but he would be able to recognize his voice, if he heard it. His vision is impaired and he requests to be seen

by an eye doctor so that his condition does not worsen. He suffers also from severe toothache.
Decision: The judge orders the detention center to have the man seen by an
eye doctor and a dentist as soon as possible, and to make sure that the doctors' instructions are carried out. The protocol is to be transferred to the Police Internal Inquiry department to investigate the alleged violence during the arrest. Remand extension: 16 days.
(The protocol will also be given to the Committee Against Torture).

10. Halal Zaher Rajai Zaharan - ID No. 911539898 from Nablus. Arrested on 28.5.08. Remand request: 16 days.
Attorney: Mahajna.
Decision: Remand extension for 16 days.

11. Jihad Aziz Mahmud Manasra - ID No. 851044982 from Bani-Na'im..

Arrested on 3.6.08. Remand request: 16 days.
Attorney Abu Wassel: The detainee is 18 years old. He was a minor at the time of his arrest.
Decision: Transfer the detainee to a suitable detention facility as soon as possible,

(due to his young age), regardless of where the case is tried.
Remand extension for 12 days.

12:10 - The typist and the investigator take a cigarette break.
The judge continues to argue with Attorney Mahajana about Detainee No. 11,
typing on the keyboard himself.

I left.
