Translation: Jonathan M.

Judge: Major Itai Regev

Investigator: Sergeant-Major Hashem Halabi

Defence Lawyers: Attorney Aabed, Attorney Mahajna

There are no military police at the back of the courtroom today, nor translators.

The attorneys translate what is being said by the investigator and judge to the suspects.

The hearings began at 10:05 and ended at 12:25.

Attorney Aabed defended five suspects and then had to go to the ‘Kishon' detention center. Attorney Mahajna defended the rest of the suspects.

There are 12 detaineesinfo-icon, 6 of them are barred from meeting with a lawyer.

(The investigators who appear at the trials are police men who write down the statements made by the suspects. The actual GSS investigators do not appear at court as their identity is confidential.)

Referring to a couple of detainees, the investigator used the term "not cooperating with the investigation", which in fact means that the suspect does not admit to the charges.

The detainee sits in the courtroom during the hearing of the previous suspect. He is constantly praying in a soft voice. He looks very pale. Attorney Aabed states that the detainee sits for hours in an interrogation room without anyone asking him anything. The only question they do ask him is whether he belongs to a hostile organization.

Ruling: Remand in custody for 6 days.

The policeman who brought in the detainee in is sitting very close to him and his defence attorney. He is listening to their conversation and no one rebukes him for that. The logo "No Fear" is printed on the back of the detainee's shirt. The detainee complains about heart problems. He had an angioplasty 18 months ago. He also suffers from breathing problems, headaches and backaches.

8. Wagdi Rashab Abed Al Halim Triara, I.D. 910572643, Hebron, Arrested:1.5.08

Attorney Mahajna tries to find out why so many of the remand in custody requests are for 17 days. Is this the standard? Shouldn't every case be examined independently? The investigator refuses to answer any questions beyond ones relating to the current case. The attorney wants to know who decides how many days to request and is that request written on a formal document. The investigator says that there is no document and that he gets instructions from the investigating authority.
