Upon our arrival at 6:05 a.m. there was a long line leading into the three sleeves, with shouting a whistling at the soldiers to open the turnstiles, and a shorter line by the Humanitarian Gate. The latter opened at 6:10 and then each time a handful of people, or even sometimes a single person, arrived at the gate. Movement through the three sleeves also picked up considerably, and the level of frustration greatly decreased. By 7.00 a.m. all three sleeves were empty and few new people were arriving. One of our sources reported (when we called his mobile) that it had taken him about 20 minutes to traverse the checkpoint. Movement through the vehicle checkpoint, however, was very slow, as only one of the two lanes was open
