Morning

Habla

06:28 – The gate is closed.  Soldiers are here, but aren’t hurrying to open it.

06:35 – The gate opens, and the first five laborers enter.  Twenty laborers crossed in 11 minutes.

06:55 – Two buses with children arrive.  Three minutes later they go through the checkpoint.

We should note that today the northern checkpoint gate is wide open - “self-service – Nina opened it.

07:20  - Falamiya.  A tractor pulling a wagon carrying two women crossed through the gate.  Two laborers on a horse went through in 4 minutes.

08:30  An army jeep parked on the side at the entrance to Beit Lid.  A sign next to the village announces that a treatment plant for sewage from Nablus will be erected, in cooperation between the German government and the Palestinian Authority.

Route 57/60 junction – An army jeep parked off to the side.

09:05 – Jit junction.  An army jeep parked off to the side.

Above the hitchhiking station at the entrance to Kedumim – soldiers are on guard.

Deir Sharaf– The owner of the grocery store where we stop for coffee tells us that a number of village families who have olive groves in Shavei Shomron received permits to work there for only three days, which is, of course, not enough.  The groves also have to be taken care of during the winter, but they aren’t given permits to do so.

On our way back, driving west, after Kedumim, on the left side of the road, is an empty house on which is written, “Shvut Ami.”  Is the inscription new?
