.

It is olive harvest time and the work is in progress, which explains why the streets were empty and most of the shops were closed throughout our tour.

In the villages of Haris, Kifl Harith, Qira and Einabus the streets were almost empty. The few people we met confirmed that all the people were picking olives. In Qira we asked a few people who were picking olives close to the road if they were harassed by the settlers and they said they weren't. In Jamma'in we entered the local council where we received a cordial welcome, as usual. We learned that the head of the council was new. He was appointed by the Palestinian Authorities after the former council head had been promoted. We were told, again, about the problem of wild pigs. The head of the council said that the poison supplied by the Authorities caused the death of 12 pigs and some 120 dogs. The electric fence deters the pigs from going into the settlements.

The other person who talked to us asked us to find out whether it was possible to remove the agricultural barrier, located east of the main barrier on the way out to road 5 (the one that had been removed a few months ago) for the time of the harvest.

We talked to Hannah Berg about the problem but it seems that the chances of doing something about it in the short time left for the harvest are slim.

Answering our question, they told us that volunteers watched over them to make sure that the settlers wouldn't harass them.

In Huwwara the traffic at the checkpoint flows freely.
