Afternoon

15:40 – Deir Sharaf (barrels) – Light automobile traffic.  Soldiers don’t stop the cars.  Is there a connection between the small number of cars and the strike called today in Nablus?

15:45  Entrance to Beit Lid – Next to the entrance to Beit Lid we see soldiers erecting a flying checkpoint.  Nadim says that settlers demonstrated there yesterday.

15:50  Anabta – Soldiers stop all cars leaving Tulkarm.

16:00 Irtah – A long line, and only two inspection booths operating.  After 10 minutes, and a talk with the person in charge of the installation, an additional booth was opened and the line flowed.  Many of the laborers are carrying large bags of oranges and they all manage to get them through the turnstile.  For more than half an hour we didn’t see people exiting after they underwent the inspection that was visible to us.  We were told that there was another exit, but we didn’t understand where it was located, and whether it was new.  After about half an hour people started flowing through the visible entrance where we’re used to seeing them come out.

16:30  Buses arrive and the line lengthens again, and for some reason once again only two inspection booths are operating.  We also contacted the humanitarian office and tried to find out why a woman intending to enter Israel has been waiting for two hours and hasn’t yet undergone a security check.  Her brother stood next to us, waiting, but we had to leave.  We gave him the phone number of the humanitarian office, so he could try to involve them if she had to keep waiting.
