Morning

Deir Sharaf

8:15  At Jit junction an army jeep is parked on the side perpendicular to the road, observing, but isn’t stopping vehicles.

8:20  We approach the junction leading to Deir Sharaf.  Traffic controllers are directing traffic because of the road works.  Cars are already using the short cut which comes down from Shavei Shomron, even though its lower section is still under construction and tractors are working on the link between the two roads.

8:25  The projectors are on at the barrels checkpoint.  The soldiers are sitting under the netting and automobile traffic flows in both directions without delays.  Two soldiers make the effort to come over to us.  They say hello, get a short explanation about who we are, and go back to their places.  From time to time they pull a car over to the side, talk briefly with the driver and let him continue.

8:40  The soldiers pull a car over.  Ask the driver to empty the trunk.  Inspected, reloaded the trunk, and two minutes later the car drove on.
