Afternoon

15:45  Deir Sharaf

About 10 cars at the entrance.
At the exit, a car detained on the side, but within a minute of our
arrival it’s released.  Much traffic.  Cars enter without
inspection.  Cars leaving are checked from time to time, apparently
at random: inspection of documents and sometimes also the trunk.
Many buses carrying children.

An Israeli truck at the entrance,
with a load of sand.  A soldier takes documents and checks permits.
Meanwhile the truck blocks traffic, and a line forms.  The soldiers
direct traffic and send vehicles through in both directions.

The the soldiers allow the
truck to enter, and a minute later stop another Israeli truck at the
entrance.  This time, after checking documents and permits, they
don’t let it through.  It turns around and parks by the side
of the road a few meters away.  We go over to see what’s happening.
In the truck are a man (the driver), three women and a girl.  They
tell us they’re on their way to a wedding, but they don’t have a
permit to go through.  They’re the first among a number of vehicles
on the way to the wedding.  The man says that they always go through
here.  He talks on his cellphone and says he’ll take another
route.

Traffic continues flowing,
and another Israeli vehicle isn’t allowed to enter.

16:05  We leave the checkpoint.
