Morning

Translation: Marganit W.

Judge: Lieut. Col. Menahem Lieberman

Police Investigator: Anan Srur

Defense: Judd Kadmani

Today we attended hearings of 6 detaineesinfo-icon.

Wassim Hatem Muhammad Alkazaki – ID 402355556

Wassim was arrested on 5.11.16.

Charge: throwing firebombs.

There is agreement on 8 additional days of interrogation, then transferring the case to the prosecution.

Taer Hani Hammed Zir – ID 854872637

Arrested on 5.11.16

Charge: throwing firebombs.

There is agreement on 8 additional days of interrogation, then transferring the case to the prosecution.

Taar and Wassim are both from Dura and participated in the same incident.

Seif Muhammad Abu Amaria – ID 948911912

Arrested on 17.1.16

Charge: activity harming security in the region, trading in combat materiel, conspiracy to commit a crime and others.

The investigators request 11-day remand extension.

Q: Is there information linking him to the charges?

A: It’s in the secret file.

Q: Was he interrogated? Has he denied the allegations?

A: He was interrogated 3 times by the Shabak [GSS], not by the police.

Q: Has the interrogation substantiated the charges against him?

A: Yes,

Q: How many more interrogations are needed?

A: 14.

Defense Summation: We object to the number of days requested. The detainee rejects the allegations – he reiterated his objection during interrogation by the Shabak.

The defense thinks that the case against his client has been weakened. He asks to reduce the remand extension. Since the detainee suffers from kidney stones, he requests medical supervision.

Judge’s decision: the respondent was arrested 4 days ago on suspicion connected to combat materiel. “I examined the secret file: there are substantial suspicions against him.”

The judge extends the detention by 11 days. This is only the beginning of the investigation.

Fahed Muhammad Mussa Abu Amaria – ID 406716589

Arrested on 17.11.16

He is the brother of Seif Muhammad and the protocol is similar, but the defense points out that it is the man’s profession that got him in trouble. He and his family collect iron and sell it to merchants. In particular iron objects found around army training ground, after the IDF has left.

Justice Lieberman sides with the investigator and extends the remand by 11 days.

Ayman Amin Hassan Khatib – ID 854499423

Barred from seeing counsel.

He was arrested on 18.11.16.

We attended the first part of the remand extension hearing, when the detainee was not present.

He is 24 years old and lives in Bethlehem. He is suspected of activity aimed against security in the region and of trading in combat materiel.

The investigators request an 11-day remand extension.

The detainee has not yet been interrogated by the police. His file mentions that he broke a finger (prior to his arrest) but does not mention any diseases.

Defense’ summation: Although this is the first remand extension, we think an 11-day extension is exaggerated. The fact that he is barred from seeing counsel makes it difficult for him. Reducing the length of the investigation will not hurt the case.

Justice Lieberman examines the file and tells the investigator that he finds the file waning: many details are missing. He requests clarification. The investigator goes out to find clarification. When the judge is alone with the detainee, he finds those clarifications satisfactory and extends the detention by 11 days.
